FISKERTON: The village hall appeal has taken on a Swiss theme.
Villager Bill Cotton is planning to climb the Matterhorn in aid of the fund.
With the help of local guides, Mr Cotton and fellow mountaineer Keith Kearns will be scaling the 14,000ft high peak at the end of August.
While the climb is mostly a personal challenge, Mr Cotton has vowed to give any sponsorship he receives to his village to buy a new hall.
The old one burnt down in 2002 and villagers have to raise £315,000 to replace it. Work is expected to begin later this year.
