Thieves take lead worth £8,000 from roof of village church

POLICE are investigating the theft of £8,000 of lead from a church roof. Criminals raided the roof of the Church of St Clement of Rome in High Street, Fiskerton, overnight on Monday.

Police said the crime at the church, which dates back to Norman times, would have been quite a lengthy and complex operation.

Lincolnshire Police spokesman James Newall said: “This would have taken a considerable amount of time and required a vehicle to transport the lead.

“We need anyone who saw any suspicious activity to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about the offence should call police on 0300 1110300, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
