Bloom time for contest gardeners

GARDENS across Lincolnshire are flowering with success as a housing association announced the winners of its annual garden competition.

Acis Group, based in Gainsborough, invited all its tenants to submit their gardens for entry into the competition, which ran over the summer.

Entries were judged by members of Acis’ tenant communications group. The winners of each category were awarded prizes worth £50, with prizes also given to second and third place gardens.

The award for best community garden went to St Oswalds, in Bardney, while the winner of best container garden went to Mrs Ardito, in Riby.

The best senior citizen garden was split between two entries “ Mr and Mrs Smith in Fiskerton and Mrs Hallett in Bardney.

Jacqui Thorburn, co-ordinator of the competition, said: “The standard of the gardens improves year on year.

“Having seen all of the entries first hand I can say without doubt that many of our tenants obviously take a huge amount of pride in the upkeep of their gardens.”

The Acis garden competition will open again in spring.
