Maligned plan for marina set for green light

A multi-million pound leisure complex was expected to receive council approval last night, despite several villagers protesting against the plans.

The 220-berth marina is proposed for Eastfield Rise Farm, off Fiskerton Road, Cherry Willingham, and also includes a workshop, cafe, a 24-bedroom hotel with restaurant and bar, and 40 holiday lodges.

Results of a survey by Cherry Willingham Parish Council showed 42 people supported the plans while 12 people were against them.

But residents also submitted a document in which 76 opposed the project and eight supported it.

Nearby Fiskerton Parish Council expressed concerns that the marina, off the River Witham, could increase the risk of flooding.

They added: “The pub and hotel will take trade away from the surrounding villages.

“A similar marina was created at Short Ferry. Demand for moorings was so low the marina was drained and filled with caravans.”

But West Lindsey District Council’s planning committee, which met last night, was recommended to approve the project subject to conditions.
